Discussing the features of HUINE charge controller as opposed to the first blue solar charge controller. There are some significant differences as opposed to just one being waterproof and one not.
As of this post I have two separate solar systems in operation, using two different brands of solar charge controllers. Both work good for there intended functionalities: a solar system in the garage facility and a solar system for street sign. While both solar systems utilize car batteries, the sign solar system uses an ECO-WORTHY solar panel and a HUINE outdoor charge controller while the garage facility utilizes harbor freight solar panels and the standard MPPT charge controllers from eBay.
Both systems work pretty good however there are a few notable differences between the two charge controllers. One charge controller is water-proof and made to be outside while the other is purely an indoor electronic device. The huine charge controller utilizes the PWM charging protocol and is much smaller than it's MPPT counter-part. It has no screw down posts like the MPPT controllers.
The huine charge controller has no menu system so it ships with default settings in it. You can select different huine models depending on your needs where as the 12/24 VOLT MPPT charge controller from eBay comes with a user interface control menu. You can set your own voltages and load discharge times. It has nice features like dusk to dawn.
I would definitely recommenced the MPPT charge controllers over the HUINE charge controller unless it is needed in a place where it would be exposed to harsh weather conditions. There are a lot more MPPT charge controllers on the market as opposed to the huine charge controller or any charge controller marketed for outdoor use.
The MPPT charge controllers are cheaper and offer user customizable settings so you can optimize your solar system. Although the construction is a little better on the huine solar charge controller, the MPPT charge controllers offer better features for less money.
Indicator Lights
The huine charge controller has nice, bright indicator lights. These lights indicate the battery charge level, weather a load is plugged in and if the solar panel is bringing in any electricity. This is a pretty nice feature because you can see it from quite a distance as to how the solar system is doing, especially at night.
Green indicates the voltage is above 12 volts, yellow would indicate under 12 volts and red would indicate under 11 volts.
USB PORTS
The MPPT charge controllers from eBay/Amazon are equipped with built in USB ports. Despite the lack of rapid charging from these ports, it is still a nice feature.
Inputs & Outputs I/O's
Each charge controller has a mechanism to interface the solar panel array, the battery and load discharge. The eBay MPPT charge controller has screw down posts, where you insert the wire/connector into the charge controller and screw it down to clamp it down. The HUINE charge controller has wires coming out of it that are soldered to the motherboard on the inside that you can splice and solder your own DC jacks or applications.
In my case I soldered DC jack pig-tails on and covered up the solder joint with heat shrink tubing for the huine.
