Showcasing my outdoor LED lighting powered 100% off grid by solar energy. Providing sufficient lighting outdoors for free powered off of car batteries and solar panels.
Outdoor lighting is essential to night life or simply navigating at night especially when there is no other light. It is also needed near garages and other outdoor work spaces where entry is needed after sun down.
eBay has a lot of options for lighting outdoors, however in my solar application the 16.4 ft Motion activated lighting from YI-lighting has been an excellent purchase. The 16 ft strips produce a lot of light and come with 3M adhesive already on the strips. Additionally these strips are waterproof and come with sensors.
The light strips operate off 12-VOLTS DC which is perfect for off-grid such as solar application. The lights can operate 24/7 or can be used with motion-activated sensor. The sensors also come with 3M adhesive and are time adjustable -- 10 Seconds up to 5 minutes. These sensors make it so the lights do not unnecessarily consume previous electricity.
These strips can consume up to 3 AMPS which make the lights quite bright however they can be used with 10 watt 12 ohm resistor which bring the consumption down to only 1 AMP, not quite as bright but plenty bright enough to see during the night time.

Shown are three 16.4 FT LED light strips stuck on the shown sides of the facility via the included adhesive. The bright light shown does not have a resistor, however it uses 3 times as much electricity. The light strips come with a power supply so that you can plug the lights directly into AC 120 Volts but I am running them off a car battery from Wal Mart.
Where I Use 16.4 light strips
- Outdoor lighting for garage facility. At this time I have 3 x light strips for a 10 by 40 pole barn. Out of the 3 strips, I have ONE that stays on all night long and does not drain the battery system.
- Street sign for internet radio station. My sign has two 16 ft strips. One on the interior of the sign and another on the exterior of the sign. The one on the exterior is at a 4 inch offset to shine light into the sign. Essentially it has a backdrop light and an offset light. This makes it easy to read at night going down the road.
